Online Accounting & Finance Master Degree Programs
In response to corporate accounting fraud, the United States government has enacted new accounting regulations that will increase the need for accounting professionals who have completed master’s programs in finance or accounting. Finance professionals must now understand complex regulations and new ethical standards absent or disregarded during the massive accounting fraud.
Just recently, opportunities for promotion in finance were not abundant and the competition intense, but the enactment of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act has created more opportunities for accountants with finance or accounting master’s degrees. Those who want to receive promotions as accountants can improve their opportunities after completing a master’s program. Finance professionals with associate or bachelor’s degrees will have a solid foundation in finance, but those with master’s degrees will develop expertise in specialties such as analysis and capital planning. Skills acquired from these programs will improve career opportunities, increase salary potential, and enhance job security. During 2005, a N.A.C.E. survey discovered that accountants who completed master’s programs were often offered starting salaries of 3,000 dollars or more than candidates with only bachelor’s degrees.
Although every accountant sooner or later must complete classes to learn about the new accounting laws, few can arrange for time off from their jobs to enroll in a conventional master’s program. A viable option to earn a master’s degree is to enroll in an online program. Those with full time jobs can complete an online master's program at their convenience at numerous accredited long distance educational institutions.
Although a master’s degree will not automatically ensure a job or specific wage, most companies seek candidates who have completed accredited degree or certification programs. The Bureau Labor of Statistics has reported that demand for accountants who have completed master's programs will continue to rise. To improve job opportunities in finance related industries, candidates will need to earn a graduate degree.
